Cultural / Editorial identity / Self-initiated study / 2026

Interval Editions

An identity that makes room for the work.

01 / The brief

A system with a job to do.

A self-initiated identity for an imagined publisher of visual culture. The brief: connect books, readings, and a small digital catalogue without making every subject look the same.

Audience
Readers, image-makers, and independent bookshops.
Scope
Mark, wordmark, typographic direction, editorial and digital applications.
Status
Independent portfolio concept. Not a commissioned or launched business.

02 / Identity

Recognisable. At every scale.

Space is part of the mark.

Keep at least one bracket-stroke of clear space around the symbol. Align the wordmark to the opening; never fill that opening with extra information.

One family. Distinct jobs.

Oasis Regular carries titles and the wordmark. Light opens up display compositions. Reading text keeps normal spacing; compact labels use a smaller, firmer weight. Explore the original typeface ↗

03 / Applications

The idea, put to work.

Four designed surfaces test the same identity against different information, scale, and reading conditions.

the lines.

An evening of books, images, and unfinished conversations.

Reading / Conversation / Exhibition

Books. Ideas. Encounters.

02 / CorrespondenceThe mark can lead alone or sit beside the name. A single ink keeps the system useful in simple production.

On looking

Leave something open.

A page is not only a place to put an image. It is a way to give an image time. A margin separates, connects, and sets the pace for what follows.

This study treats the space between things as part of the identity: the pause before a title, the gap inside a mark, the quiet around a photograph.

03 / Editorial spreadRegular text and a lighter display weight share one family. The margin becomes a repeatable part of the identity.

04 / Responsive digital compositionA layout study, not a booking or shop interface. The title, name, and next-step hierarchy remain intact as the composition narrows.

04 / Decisions & trade-offs

Character without the clutter.

Two open brackets become a frame, a reading interval, and a compact publisher’s mark. The same opening governs the space around titles. Oasis Geometric supplies a direct, contemporary voice; generous margins give dense editorial material room to breathe.

A large monogram would compete with a book’s subject. The bracket mark stays peripheral on editorial layouts and becomes the focal point only on identity-led pieces. One accent colour identifies the series; it does not carry the reading hierarchy.

This is a design proposition. Production testing, audience research, and real-world performance would be the next validation steps; no commercial outcomes are claimed.
